General Information

Vertus High School is an all-boys, free public high school designed specifically for the needs of Rochester’s young men. At Vertus, we prioritize character development through our Preceptor program, providing each student with a dedicated adult mentor. These mentors are committed to guiding every young man towards success, regardless of their academic starting point. Our flexible learning model allows students to progress at their own pace, ensuring struggling students can catch up and advanced students can soar ahead. Our results speak volumes, with Vertus students gaining more than one and a half years of education annually. We focus not only on academics but also on character growth, athletics, and holistic development. Since our establishment in 2014, our students have consistently exceeded national expectations for student growth and performance.

At Vertus Charter School, our commitment to nurturing leaders of character is at the core of everything we do, ensuring that our students are not only academically accomplished but also well-rounded individuals ready to make a positive impact on their communities and the world.

Instructional Models

Vertus Charter School’s blended learning program is at the forefront of our commitment to helping students succeed. We recognize that every student has unique needs, strengths, and interests, and our approach is designed to cater to these individual differences.

Our blended learning model seamlessly combines in-person instruction with online resources. This dynamic approach enables students to progress at their own pace, ensuring that learning is personalized to their specific needs. Here’s how it works:

1. Personalized Learning: Our students are not bound by a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Instead, they have the flexibility to delve deeper into subjects they excel in or revisit topics where they need extra support. This personalized approach ensures that each student’s educational journey is tailored to their abilities and aspirations.

2. MCC Programs: Vertus Charter School collaborates with Monroe Community College (MCC) to provide access to a wide range of college-level courses. This partnership opens up opportunities for our students to earn college credits while still in high school, giving them a head start on their academic and career paths.

3. Internships: We understand the importance of real-world experience in shaping a student’s future. Vertus Charter School actively facilitates internships, allowing students to explore their career interests, gain practical skills, and make valuable industry connections. These internships provide hands-on learning experiences that enhance classroom education.

4. CTE Courses: Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses are geared toward students’ interests. Whether it’s in-depth training in barbering, music production, emerging technology, or other fields, these courses provide students with specialized skills and knowledge that align with their passions and career goals.

By combining these elements, Vertus Charter School ensures that our students not only receive a well-rounded education but also have the opportunity to explore and cultivate their unique talents and interests. This holistic approach not only prepares them for academic success but also equips them with the skills and experiences needed to thrive in the ever-evolving job market.

At Vertus Charter School, we believe that education should be a dynamic and personalized journey. Our blended learning program, in conjunction with partnerships, internships, and CTE courses, empowers our students to chart their own course to success, pursue their passions, and develop into confident, capable leaders of character.
